MUST KNOW BEFORE USING :

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT MOTOR SWITH：This is the motor forward/reverse switch (FOR/REV/OFF), controling the motor's direction (clockwise/counterclockwise). Please do not mistake it for a cable forward/backward control function. In 99% of cases, this switch should be in the FOR position. 

HOW TO PREVENT CABLE DAMAGE：80% cable damage is due to the cable getting caught on a blockage (a very tight blockage). What should you do when a cable starts to tense or bend: 

  • If the tool becomes lodged and the drum keeps spinning, the cable will begin to twist dangerously. Release the foot switch to stop the motor. WARNING: The drum and cable may violently spin backwards for a few seconds to release the built-up tension. Keep a firm grip on the cable to control it, but allow it to unwind. Wait for the drum to come to a complete stop.
  • Ensure the motor switch is still in FOR (do not switch motor to REV to avoid tangling). Move the auto-feed lever to the "Retract" position. Depress the foot switch gently to see if the machine can pull the tool free.
  • If the machine cannot pull it out, release the foot switch. Loosen the auto-feed tension knob. With gloved hands, firmly pull the cable manually to free the tool from the obstruction.
  • Once free, put the machine back in Forward Feed and slowly approach the blockage again. Let the cutter do the work—do not force it.

WHEN TO USE MOTOR REV MODE：The cutting tool is completely stuck in a blockage (e.g., roots) and the machine cannot pull it back while in FOR mode.

  • Release the foot pedal and wait for the drum to come to a complete stop
  • Flip the motor switch to REV
  • Depress the foot pedal for only 3 to 5 seconds. Do not run it longer
  • Release the foot pedal and wait for the drum to stop
  • Flip the motor switch back to FOR
  • Try to retract the cable using the feed lever

IF THE CABLE HAS KNOTTED: If the cable is already knotted inside the drum, there are generally three solutions:

  • Watch the video about replacing the cable. Try manually pulling the cable out completely and then retrieve it.
  • If that doesn't work, push the cable completely back into the drum, and then try to remove the cable from the gaps in the drum.
  • If all the above methods fail, it means the cable is completely jammed. Use heavy tools to cut the old cable off. Contact the POPULO CARE + team to obtain a new cable.
